The Year 2009 will end with a Blue Moon Eclipse

The Year 2009 will end with a Blue Moon Eclipse – people from Europe, Africa and Asia can see a beautiful blue moon eclipse today.

It’s going to be a Full Moon on New Year’s Eve 2009. It’s also going to be a Blue Moon. (A Blue Moon is the 2nd Full moon in a single calendar month – on 2nd and 31st December 2009). This will be the 13th Full Moon of 2009. It’s going to be a Blue Full Moon the same night it turns a new decade. The next Blue Moon NYE will be in 29 years on December 31, 2028.

The first penumbral contact occurs at 18:17:08 CET. The ecliptic conjunction occurs at about 20:12:45 CET and greatest eclipse takes place at 20:22:39 CET when the eclipse magnitude will reach 0.0763. The eclipse ends at about 22:28:11 CET. It is only a partial eclipse, but should be visible all over Europe if the weather conditions permit.

This minor partial lunar eclipse takes place in Gemini, and is visible primarily from the Eastern Hemisphere.
