Elemental

Elemental: Adorable And Thematically Complex

0

By Brandon Scott on Nov 22nd, 2023

Elemental marks Pixar’s first romance-focused story since Wall-E, and as a fan of romance stories—yes, most people also find that surprising when they find out—I have to give it a glowing endorsement right off the bat.

Luca

Luca: Another Great Pixar Movie

0

By Brandon Scott on Aug 2nd, 2023

Luca serves as another reminder of why Pixar has the reputation it does. Yes, stuff like The Good Dinosaur and the Cars franchise unsettled that a little, making it guesswork if the newest Pixar movie will be worth the time, but Luca is worth the time.

How To Get Your Project Reviewed

0

By Brandon Scott on Jul 26th, 2023

Hi, everyone! We get a lot of requests from artists and creators to review their work, and we want to cover more of those indie projects. To make that easier on our end and on yours, we’ve created a form where you can tell us about your project.

Nimona: An Unexpectedly Emotional Story

0

By Brandon Scott on Jul 24th, 2023

Nimona hit the media landscape with such explosive power that avoiding spoilers was difficult. A stylized, bombastic, irreverent sci-fi fantasy mashup with an animation style reminiscent of Spider-Verse and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has become a winning combination, practically guaranteed to get the attention of the critic community, and I’m no different. The question of Nimona was when I would review it, not if I would.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Best Superhero Movie

0

By Brandon Scott on Jul 3rd, 2023

The thing about watching Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is there was no question of if the movie would be good. The first Spider-Verse movie was a revelation, an epoch for animation, and I barely mean that as hyperbole.

It Came From The Archives! “Praise For Extremely Short Art”

By Brandon Scott on Jun 21st, 2023

Even after all this time, I’m still impressed by Baymax—and that only proves my point. Good writing and excellent storytelling don’t need hours to wow an audience. It Came From The Archives! “How The Franchise Film Changed The Multiverse”

0

By Brandon Scott on Jun 7th, 2023

So, I’ve noticed two recent trends that seem to be a byproduct of the huge influx of franchise films, specifically superhero films. They’re not so much a reaction as a necessity for things to go on as they are.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Knows What It Is

0

By Brandon Scott on May 15th, 2023

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, hereafter simply called The Mario Bros. Movie, was inevitable. In the media landscape that brought us Sonic the Hedgehog and gave The Matrix another sequel, the most famous video game character besides Pac-Man was bound to get the silver screen treatment (for the second time—I haven’t seen the previous one). And it’s kind of miraculous it turned out as well as it did.

It Came From The Archives! “Circle: An Unfocused Death Game Movie”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 10th, 2023

To call Circle an intense film is to undersell it. Utilizing almost only a single location, this death game story touches upon politics, human nature, mercy, and bigotry. It uses a very simple premise and plays it straight and is one of the best-paced films I’ve seen in a long time.

Nope

Nope Is One Of The Best Horror Movies

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 26th, 2023

I hope it’s clear how good I think Nope is by me actively not wanting to spoil anything. Usually, I keep these reviews as vague as possible about plot points, but I must be even more careful with this one.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: A Delightful Adaptation

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 3rd, 2023

Let’s get two things out of the way regarding Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. First off, I know some stuff about the game, but I’m not a hardcore TTRPG player. I got some of the abundant references—but a lot of them went right over my head, and my criticisms may be affected or skewed in some way by this. And second, it needs to be acknowledged from a pop culture history standpoint how cool it is that this film exists at all.
