Big Bang In CERN-Large Hadron Collider in Action
Big Bang, black holes, CERN, Large Hadron Collider news. One of the greatest experiments in our history. Big Bang theory video.
CERN
Astrophysics enjpyed yesterday when scientists at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) successfully smashed sub-atomic particles into each other.
The collisions created thousand of mini Big-Bang simulations. The Big Bang is the primeval explosion believed to have resulted in the creation of our universe over 13 billion years ago. CERN’s Director of Research Sergio Bertulocci said “This opens the door to a totally new era of discovery. It is a step into the unknown where we will find things we thought were there and perhaps things we didn’t know existedâ€.
The Large Hadron Collider
The $9.4 billion project had been badly affected by myriad technical issues for the first year if its operation. Yesterday however marked a notable major success and applause rang out at the underground facility.
The Large Hadron Collider, located over 100 metres beneath the Swiss-French border successfully slammed beams of particles together at a collision energy of 7 TeV, or 7 million million electron volts.
The particles would have had to be travelling at a shade under the speed of light to achieve such energy levels. The collisions will continue for the next decade as research data is collected and analysed.
