Friday Fiction: Frozen Army
It’s the future. But not a nice one. An army of indestructible machines simply called “The Marching” have done serious damage to the planet, destroying so much in their wake.

In most sets, most of the artifacts aren’t usually that impressive—but Foundations is different. There are quite a few good ones. Five, in fact, that I think are so good they’ll especially stand the test of time.

Foundations actually has a lot of multicolored cards—including some legendary creature reprints that I think have interesting implications for standard. But in regard to the top five cards I think will see a lot of play through Foundations’ lifetime, most of the ones I picked are low-cost, helpful cards with a strong impact on the board.

Time for a weird sci-fi concept! This time, we’re checking in on the very first Four-Man. Being a Four-Man comes with a power, but also some difficulties.

Let’s make something clear about my reviewing Transformers One: I have no horses in this race. Transformers is not my fandom. I have no notable history with it. I am aware of it through other people talking about it, but that’s about it. So, I can speak on it without nostalgia, without a sense of fan betrayal for whatever aspect they changed. I am not objective—this is a critical media review—but I’m judging it as a standalone movie.

The Green Foundations Cards Have Clear Themes There’s a version of this Foundations list that is just green elf cards. The synergy and power level are fairly high there. But sometimes you don’t want to play a deck based around one creature type—and, as I outlined in the very first article of this “series,” this…

We have a new subgenre today! For—if my memory is correct—this is the first LITRPG-style story we’ve ever featured on the site. It’s not exactly a LITRPG; it more just explores one part of such a world, but the similarities are there.

I think my bias for “Red Deck Wins” is obvious with my Foundations picks for red—but I also don’t think I’m the only one. The card list has so many low-to-the-ground little monsters who want to win games before control can do anything. It feels like the creators want the deck to always be around in standard—and, frankly, I agree with them. But which of the many aggro cards are the best?

The black cards are really powerful in Foundations. The reprints, especially. I did not expect that we would have these options just sitting around in standard now. All but the fourth cards on this list are fully capable of changing the course of a game. They will (sometimes indirectly) win the whole thing. Plus, you can put all of these into the same style of deck.

Dear reader, oh, our dear readers, the following tale doesn’t fit into any single genre. It is a fantasy tale, in a medieval land, yes. And there’s a strange type of magic that anyone can spontaneously have, for certain. That is fantastical. No arguing about that.

The Wild Robot is, simply put, almost as perfect an animated movie as there could be. I am in awe of it. The writing, the character work, the multiple incredible scenes. If you have not yet experienced this movie—even if you’ve been spoiled on the plot—you should seek it out immediately.

Generic blue cards see a lot of use, and clearly, Foundations planned for that. Because my top five basically consists of generally useful spells for a large variety of decks. These don’t feel as flashy as the white cards—nor are there any haymakers. They’re just good cards.
