With, strangely, three horror movies releasing in early December, it seemed like a good idea to go over the trailers and give my first impressions and recommendations. Horror, perhaps more than any other genre, is rather hit or miss—so it’s worth getting a little forewarning.

Also, none of these are Christmas themed, but they are all interesting.

In Fabric:

So, I guess if you’re going to make a movie with as cheesy ’80s of a concept as a killer dress, you’re going to need to either do something wholly different or lean into the cheese. In Fabric is the former. It’s deranged and off-kilter and odd going off the trailer. I’m unsure if the direction really gels with me personally, but it’s hyper-stylized, which, while often polarizing, will make it a treat for those willing to accept the silly premise.

Daniel Isn’t Real:

Looks like Fight Club was a major influence. This trailer is interesting, both visually and story-wise, and, if I’m ever in a very horror movie mood, might be something I would enjoy. Recent media like Joker and Split seems to want to highlight things like hallucinations and multiple personalities or similar ideas and run with them—and this movie might just be its culmination. Additionally, the acting and cinematography both seem top-notch, so there’s some real promise here. Give it a try.

I See You:

And the best for last. The last of the trailers is scary and unnerving—I was partially covering my eyes by the end of it. I’m not entirely sure what exactly is doing it, the slick editing that sometimes lingers, the hints of supernatural threats, or the fact of the trailer telling a mini-story all by itself: but this shows immense promise. If the entire movie manages to keep this consistent of a tone of sheer dread, or even contains just a few scares as good as the ones here, then we are looking at an excellent and terrifying new movie worth your time.

And that’s three upcoming horror movies for you. I know it’s an odd time to be interested in them, but maybe one of them strikes your fancy. A good movie has no time restrictions, after all.
