Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “Wish World”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 26th, 2025

I think one of the most efficient ways to review “Wish World” is to describe a little bit of what it’s like watching “Wish World.” Because this is one of the weirdest, most unmooring episodes of Doctor Who I have ever seen.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodic Coverage: “Art for Art’s Sake”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 21st, 2025

“Art for Art’s Sake” is so settled into what I want from a gritty superhero show that it paradoxically doesn’t give me as much to talk about. The plotlines are converging, interacting, cracking open one another in ways I mostly expected.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “The Interstellar Song Contest”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 19th, 2025

“The Interstellar Song Contest” only has one full song in it. The song is beautifully sung, and important to the plot, yes, but “The Church on Ruby Road” somehow gets a fully laid out song, with lyrics, and a dance number, and this one doesn’t? We get the full Mr. Ring-A-Ding number basically twice in “Lux,” but the scenes here keep cutting away for every performance? That’s so weird. This is a weird way to do this story.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodic Coverage: “Excessive Force”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 14th, 2025

Yes, finally! “Excessive Force” explodes with all the pent-up energy that this series has been waiting to use. It sets up the stakes and the dominoes so aggressively that there was never any question that Matt would become Daredevil, once again.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “The Story and the Engine”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 12th, 2025

“The Story and the Engine” is quite the writing feat. Of all of the episodes this season—or last season—it feels like it has the most going on. Plotlines are not only densely interlocked, but the foreshadowing happens quickly and frequently. And, somehow, this episode is also one of the most expansive for the overall magical lore of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “Lucky Day”

0

By Brandon Scott on May 7th, 2025

I sadly disliked “Lucky Day” more than I expected. I get the vision. The idea is sound. Frankly, like a lot of episodes in this season so far, this is such a cool idea for a Doctor Who episode. But as time has gone on, I’ve been less and less fond of this one.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “The Well”

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 28th, 2025

“The Well” is kind of everything I want from a spooky Doctor Who episode. It’s a classic science fiction horror scenario—abandoned, hostile location—with a pinch of cosmic unknowableness, and a slower pace to build that dread. It’s a shame that a few moments brought down the otherwise excellent experience slightly.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “Lux”

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 21st, 2025

Alright, “Lux,” I’m onto that game. Having canonical critics in the episode point out its flaws to prevent people from considering them flaws is a fun trick. Hilariously, I hadn’t been bothered—or even noticed, honestly—that Lux changed his plan halfway through. I had long ago just accepted that this was going to be a surreal episode that wanted to really play with the fourth wall and that it wouldn’t have much of a true story.

Doctor Who Episodic Coverage: “The Robot Revolution”

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 14th, 2025

“The Robot Revolution” has given me a bit of a theory about Doctor Who as a series—at least lately. I don’t think its runtime allows it to satisfactorily run two simultaneous plotlines well. Something’s going to give.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodic Coverage: “With Interest”

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 9th, 2025

“With Interest” finally gives us a superhero episode. I said last review that I wanted the pot to boil over, and it basically did. Daredevil locks in, even if the mask hasn’t come on. I hadn’t expected the episode to break the seal being a very trope-heavy, classic superhero scenario, but, hey, it was a ton of fun.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodic Coverage: “Sic Semper Systema”

0

By Brandon Scott on Apr 2nd, 2025

“Sic Semper Systema” is a pure setup episode—and it’s the only reason it suffers. The last two episodes were a very clean arc, the White Tiger arc, and it ended brutally. But it also ended, and the fallout isn’t lingered on as much as I expected. It’s just bringing up the boil.

Daredevil: Born Again Episodic Coverage: “The Hollow Of His Hand”

0

By Brandon Scott on Mar 19th, 2025

“The Hollow of His Hand” chronicles one of the most electric courtroom dramas I’ve seen in a long time. This may be because I only tend to watch certain genres and not typically legal thrillers, but the twists and turns, the emotional highs and lows, all contained within one episode, simply floored me.
