The Electric State Is A Terrible Sci-Fi Movie
The Electric State is terrible. A very generic plot with guessable moments at every stage only highlights how nonsensical the out-there worldbuilding becomes.

The Mightnight Sky is bleak. A sense of loss, sadness, and more just permeates every moment of this movie. Even the biggest moment of levity made me tense, not relieved. And you really have to be in the right headspace to enjoy it.

Wicked (part one) is a lush, spectacular, wonderful experience of a movie. It captures the delightful energy of live theater and has so many incredible scenes. I’ve had several of its songs stuck in my head since I watched it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Before reading this review of Dune: Part Two, I urge you to look at my previous one. It simply saves us some time. The issues of Dune: Part One carry over—as does much of the praise. As is ideal for the second part of a two-parter, this feels like the natural continuation. The long play simply had an intermission. Dune: Part Two assumes you recently watched the previous film and explains little to nothing.

Dune: Part 1 is a long movie covering only part of an even longer book, with a ton of history behind it, and I am writing this without having read the book. In 2025. And, frankly, there’s so much baggage here that I am not equipped to talk about. You can tell it’s not a story written in the modern day.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was not a movie I was expecting to exist. I only have vague recollections of the movie where we first met our evil penguin antagonist. But Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget returned, so why not this?

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is inescapably a nostalgia grab of a movie, relying on people like me and our fond memories of the original film. If it weren’t for that history, I’m not sure it would’ve been that big of a deal for there to be a new kid’s movie about chickens attempting to escape being eaten.

The Wild Robot is, simply put, almost as perfect an animated movie as there could be. I am in awe of it. The writing, the character work, the multiple incredible scenes. If you have not yet experienced this movie—even if you’ve been spoiled on the plot—you should seek it out immediately.

Werewolf by Night is a fun, campy Marvel show that disappointed me because of its marketing and presentation. If you wanted to see a horror movie done in the Marvel universe with a Deadpool level of R-rated gore, then you’re in for an unpleasant surprise.

The fact this is being made into a movie doesn’t bode super well for things. Remakes are a contentious topic under normal circumstances. This doesn’t seem like normal circumstances.

When you become a diehard fan of a type of media or genre (really any of them), you notice patterns. I’ve spoken before about storytelling patterns in the wider construct of narratives, but what I mean this time is tropes.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors is a Marvel movie you’ve likely never heard of before. I hadn’t. It’s a movie about a superhero team with some very familiar names if you keep up to date with the greater MCU canon.
