Well, this is bound to start some sort of discussion.
Yes, the Warcraft trailer is finally upon us! After nearly a decade of waiting fans got to see a snippet of the film version at this year’s BlizzCon. Director Duncan Jones, known for the film Moon, took the stage with a group of excited actors to unveil the project to the drooling masses.
The film was originally set to release this December, but the idea of going up against J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens seemed less than thrilling so it will hit theaters this upcoming June. Jones also lent a hand with the screenplay alongside Blood Diamond’s Charles Leavitt and the two adapted the origin story of the beginning interactions between humans and orcs.
To be more specific, the story focuses on two protagonists fighting for the good of their people. On the Alliance side is Anduin Lothar, played by Travis Fimmel, a griffin-riding knight intending to keep Azeroth safe and for the Horde is the noble Durotan, played by Toby Kebbell, who is leading his people from the dying Draenor. The Dark Portal is opened, connecting the two worlds and it appears that only one race can prosper.
The movie has been in the works since 2006 when Blizzard Entertainment entered a partnership with Legendary Pictures. Before Jones took over Sam Raimi was all set to go and poured almost a year into the picture when Blizzard decided they wanted to go another direction. Raimi doesn’t hold any grudges against the new director, though: “I loved his movie Moon, and I think he’s a strikingly talented director. I bet that if anyone can do a great job with it, it’s him.”
So what do you think of the trailer? Do you think the game is getting the justice it deserves on the big screen or does it look like a wash of CGI that you can’t be bothered with?
