Here at Sci-Fi Bloggers, we run a lot of individual pieces on the site, each of them revolving around and focusing on a specific topic. Sometimes, however, we like to crank it up a notch and take a look at a whole lot at once. With that said, we invite you to follow us as we take a look at what’s happening…AROUND THE NET!

Unlikely Hero Steps Up to Save Earth

It’s a familiar story: aliens want to inhabit earth and decide wiping out all life is the best way to get it done. But this time our fate doesn’t rest in the hands of the military, super smart scientists or even Will Smith.

In the sci-fi comedy film The Seventeenth Kind, humanity’s champion is Timmy Richard (played by Tony Curran), the Shopping Channel guy. The man who hocks items on TV is responsible for defeating hostile aliens and that premise alone suggests lots of hilarity. Whether he’ll bribe them with free merchandise or use his products against them, I’m sure it’ll be a wild ride full of laughs.

The Seventeenth Kind also stars Ralph Brown, Miriam Margolyes, Sylvester McCoy and Lucy Pinder and can currently be rented or bought for $4.99 on ReelHouse. Click HERE to view the film, which comes with bonus features that include interviews with the cast.

Ghosts of Forgotten Empires: Volume One

Ancient artifacts from Egypt give top agents from the United States and Russia godlike abilities. Soon, a new Cold War begins with weapons that make nuclear warfare seem like child’s play.

At the center of Ghosts of Forgotten Empires: Volume One is Cord Devlin, the American agent who was granted these powers and an avid Star Trek fan who may love his new abilities too much. His friend and handler, Paul McMaster, worries that Cord’s immaturity may work against him as they deal with the growing conflict.

Ghost of Forgotten Empires: Volume One, the latest book by author Michael J. Foy, is available on Amazon in both paperback and kindle.

Aliens Enjoy Cheap Reality Shows Too

Paul Miller and Fred Reap meet two attractive twins and think they’ve hit the jackpot, but soon find themselves abducted by aliens. The two men are forced into slavery and they are desperate to return to Earth, especially Paul, who has a daughter back home.

Their only hope is to enter an intergalactic Reality TV show called “Space Bush” where they have to seduce and bed aliens. Along the way Paul and Fred meet several unique species including a cannibal and one that evolved from plants.

Space Bush, written by Andrew Armacost, contains graphic content and is currently available on Amazon.

The Imaginary Five

Esther travels through post-apocalyptic America helping settlements of survivors thrive, never letting anyone know who she really is. Esther then meets a man from her past named Nick and it’s revealed they have the same secret: neither are human.

Nick and Esther are mystical creatures who set out to find others like themselves, including a creature who lives in the shadows and a woman obsessed with teeth. They have to band together to fight something that wants to destroy what’s left of the world, a creature known as Cthulhu.

Uncanny Is Back!

Uncanny is an online sci-fi and fantasy magazine first launched November 4, 2014. As of November 3, 2015, the seventh issue of the magazine is available and features content people submit ranging from nonfiction to poetry.

New works of fiction in this issue include “And the Balance in Blood” by Elizabeth Bear and “Wooden Feathers” by Ursula Vernon. New poetry entries are “The Thirteenth Child” by Mari Ness and “Something Different from Either” by Sonya Taaffe.

All of Uncanny’s content will be available in eBook versions including Weightless Books, Amazon and Barnes & Noble. For those without a subscription, half of the content will be available free online the day of release, the rest on December 1. Click HERE to check them out!

Northern Lights

Lance and Callie are two siblings with a strained relationship. I’m sure plenty of people know what that’s like. They decide to go hiking in the mountains and after encountering some strange men realize they are lost.

While Lance and Callie try to find their way home they soon realize their loss of direction isn’t their biggest problem. There are otherworldly forces in the forest and the siblings must work together to survive.

An Android Awakens

An Android Awakens follows Android Writer PD121928, part of the Android Publishing Program. They took away his wife and forced him to live in solitude with a stipend of drugs and prostitutes to replicate their idea of a writer’s life.

The latest novel written by Android Writer PD121928 has been rejected and he has only 14 more attempts to write a story acceptable by the Program. If he fails to do so he will be deactivated.

Redshift

Redshift is a monthly sci-fi anthology, an audio series similar to the radio dramas of the 30s and 40s. The first season contains six episodes and following a successful Kickstarter campaign a second season has been commissioned.

Story submissions are open to the public and are currently being accepted. The first season featured authors of many different experience levels and publishing status so all our welcome to send submissions.

The Journeyman

The afterlife, known as The Commons, has been taken over by a corporate raider who uses the energy of souls to maintain his control. The result is an imaginary landscape of a broken America overrun with monsters and nightmares of the imprisoned dead.

The fate of The Commons lies in the hands of an Iraq war veteran, her five-year-old special-needs child and a New York street kid who died in a horrific bus crash. They team up with others including a Shaolin Monk with anger-management issues and a six-foot mummy.

Shadow’s Story: Brother Gone Rogue

The planet Neuronia has been left in ruins for over a decade after a devastating war broke out. Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated story follows Shadow, a quirky fifteen-year-old boy who doesn’t have the best luck.

Shadow decides to go on vacation with his friends Fuzz-B and Spunky to a place obliterated by war, somewhere he was warned never to go. Shadow prepares for this journey not knowing it will be full of adventures he never dreamed possible.
