These are not in order of importance.
Stephen King Yes, I realize it might be illegal to put a human being in a vault, but it’s not like we’re going to starve him to death. He’ll have food, books, a TV, whatever he wants. The reason King should be in the vault…if you have to ask me this, then I have a question for you: What are you doing with your life? Clearly, living it wrong. And now you have homework. The man is a horror story genius (a bit verbose). Even if you haven’t read any of his novels, you have GOT to check out his movies (specifically IT? trust me, you will pee your pants).
Pancake Recipes I think pancakes might be one of the most amazing things on this planet. I don’t know where they come from, and I don’t care enough to google it, but I do know that they are delicious. If aliens crashed down and destroyed all of human civilization, trust me, you would want pancakes on the future planet Earth.
Every Season of The Office I don’t know what it is, but The Office is pretty much the only show I have ever watched and laughed all the way through. I have a weird sense of humor, meaning I rarely ever find anything funny. Seriously, it might be a condition. I think The Office caters to the humor of everyone. Of course, it’s not necessarily an accurate depiction of daily life, but it’s funny and the lovable, pitiful Michael Scott can transcend societal barriers.
Books Okay, lame one, right? Typical from a writer, but I can make a case for this. Everyone needs books. In a post-apocalyptic world, they’re not going to have internet or TV (Woah, how are they going to watch The Office…oh well, still goes into the vault), so the people of that civilization will need some sort of leisure activity. Also, what better way to help them connect with us than through our literature. Books might not be hot sugar in 2014, but I tell you this: Turn off your TV, close your laptop (after you finish reading this article, OF COURSE), and pop open a book. I’m not talking about your required reading. I’m talking about a book that you are genuinely interested in from cover to cover, and I promise you, it is a much more fulfilling experience than any screen can relinquish to you.
Practical Things On a more serious note, I imagine the things contained in this vault will be the keys to upstarting the world after we are all obliterated. The people of the future will need things to help them survive: perhaps a generator, toothpaste, seeds, instructions on planting, water filters, gas masks (we don’t know the type of environment they’ll be living in), some guns, a few knives, clothes, and many other things.
Hopefully, the aliens won’t kill us. Hopefully, the ending of our life movie will end like The Day The Earth Stood Still, and we can prove to our invaders that we, humans, have the potential to be beautiful, worthy creatures.
