The Wild World of Force Powers

Whether they are a wookie, a conehead, or just an average looking guy, Jedi in Star Wars come literally in almost every shape and color. With so many Jedi comes an equally diverse array of force powers. Here are some of the more exclusive powers, and some of the Jedi that put them to use.

Force Water Orb

Developed by everybody’s favorite Nautolan, Jedi Master Kit Fisto, the Force Water Orb was known only to him. Fisto was a master of water manipulation and as such developed the ability himself. Gathering oxygen from the water, Fisto could create essentially a giant air bubble that could be thrown at enemies with great force.  During the Battle of Mon Calamari in the Clone Wars Fisto used this ability to destroy underwater weapons used by the Quarrens. This might not sound terribly impressive, but Kit Fisto is my favorite Jedi so I feel obligated to list his exclusive power.

Battle Meditation

This incredibly rare, and incredibly powerful, force ability was made famous by Bioware’s excellent Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game. Used in the game by the Jedi Knight Bastila Shan to devastating effect, Battle Meditation boosts the morale, stamina, and fighting prowess of allies and at the same time erodes the enemies will to fight. In large scale battles this ability could be used to coordinate entire fleets for maximum efficiency. Battle Meditation might be largest scale force ability in existence, capable of effecting hundreds and even thousands of combatants.

Sever Force

In the Star Wars universe the force flows through everything, and those who can master it essentially become super heroes with amazing powers, both physical and mental. Now what if you could strip somebody of that power, severing their connection with the force? That’s the idea behind this force power and it’s quite possibly the most powerful attack a force user can have in their arsenal.  In the times of ancient Jedi, this power was even used as a form of punishment against those who swayed from Jedi teachings. Intended often to be permanent, sometimes after one had their force connection severed it could be regained. Popular expanded universe Jedi and rebel Kyle Katarn severed his own connection to the force because he feared his fall to the dark side, but later reconnected to in order to gain revenge on a dark Jedi for seemingly killing his partner Jan Ors.

The galaxy far far away is filled with incredible powers and abilities, and this is just a small sample. Even in the fantastical universe of Star Wars though these powers are few and far between, making them a rare, and dangerous, treat when they do pop up in various expanded universe books and games.
