The Best Aetherdrift Cards (4 of 5)
This is part 4 of a list of the best 25 cards in the latest Magic: The Gathering set, Aetherdrift. The articles are meant to be read in order, so start with the first one if you want the full list. Cards are presented in WUBRG order and alphabetically within each color.

Outpace Oblivion
Three mana for five damage to any creature is just a good rate, and considering there are a bunch of other “engine speed” cards in red—the best ones I already covered in the previous Aetherdrift article—it’s a good early-turn play. I have no idea how effective or feasible that other ability even is, though. But, like, maybe it’s just guaranteed damage against some Standard decks.
Elvish Refueler
Big exhaust payoff. I’m sure there are a lot of ways to make this card really powerful. Even just having something to put extra mana into is useful. I’m really not impressed with the green Aetherdrift cards, so this being on the list is more because it—and the next two—stood out above everything else.
Lumbering Worldwagon
The crew cost is a little steep here, but the ability to steadily ramp is useful. As the game goes, you get bigger and bigger creatures and this grows alongside your options. I expect to see this as a minor player in a lot of different decks since it smooths out mana and is easy to cast.
Thunderous Velocipede
I think there will be games where this Aetherdrift card doesn’t even need to turn into a creature—though it’s basically guaranteed to be able to do so. That’s so many counters to just passively give creatures and vehicles. It somehow also has trample, too, so it remains a decent threat throughout a game. This is the second-best Aetherdrift vehicle.
Debris Beetle
Look at this card. This is not an okay Aetherdrift card. This is the best vehicle in the set, by far. It’s got the Siege Rhino ability for a very easy mana cost and great stats and trample. I have no idea why this also gets a very easy crew cost on top of everything. At least that would’ve been balanced a little. I expect to die to this card a lot.
