Syfy’s Fridays: The Killjoys and Dark Matter

The Syfy Channel is hoping to follow up on the success of some of its most recent programming like 12 Monkeys with its most recent The Killjoys and Dark Matter.

The Killjoys is a space adventure that debuted on June 19th about a group of bounty hunters on a romp around the extensiveness of space. The series stars Hannah John-Kamen of Misfits, Aaron Ashmore from Warehouse 13 and Luke Macfarlane of The Night Shift. Each hunter has a past and their connections threaten more than just the group dynamic. Hopefully, the show can focus on the action and intensity rather than turn it into some sort of love triangle and plaguing personal issues. It comes from Lost Girl writer Michelle Lovretta and directed by Chris Grismer. Get a look at the trailer.

You can ride with The Killjoys Fridays on the Syfy Channel.

While you’re in for the evening and your popcorn is still warm, you can catch Dark Matter. The show, which is based on the 2012 comic book of the same name, focuses on crew members of a mysterious ship who wake from stasis and find that they have no recollection of who they are. Of course they’re left to pick up the pieces together and make sense of who they are and just why they woke up in space. The series premiered on June 19th and created by Stargate SG-1 writers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.

I highly recommend you head over to Syfy to show each series at least some support. It should be noted that Syfy’s original programs are some of the very few that get renewed or find audience viewership in the science fiction genre, at least those that don’t currently revolve around superheroes. Shows can stumble in their first few episodes, even season, but perhaps you’ll enjoy them for some summer fun.

Have you watched The Killjoys or Dark Matter? Tell me your thoughts.
