SOMA Is Coming to Scare

Remember all the good times you had playing Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent? Oh, no? You were rocking back and forth in a corner with the light on? Cool, me too.

Anyways, Frictional is preparing to come back with SOMA, a first-person survival horror. The plot is eerily outlined on their website:

The radio has gone silent on PATHOS-2. As isolation bears down on the staff of the remote research facility, strange things are happening.

Machines are taking on human traits and alien constructions have started to interfere with routine. The world around them is turning into a nightmare.

The only way out is to do something unimaginable.

Pssh, I’m not scared.

Just recently a twelve minute gameplay trailer was released, revealing the first hour or so of the game. Check it out here:

There’s a lot of dark tunnels, mysterious fluids, cries for help and chilling mechanical sounds that can, no doubt, mean that nothing is going well for you. Did you hear those heavy footsteps coming for you? Yeesh.

The game will be released September 22nd of this year for Windows, OS X, Linux and PlayStation 4. Over on Frictional Games’ YouTube page there are a bunch of creepy snippets from SOMA. A full-length feature film entitled Depth is expected to be released around the same time. Featured below are two shorts made in support of the

game. The snippets reveal more about what the game could be like and what setting we can expect. The first is, “Vivarium”.

The last one is called, “Mockingbird”.

So are you excited to journey to the deepest depths of the sea? You can check out all this and more over on the SOMA website here and use the “Files” tab to piece together the mystery behind the desolate PATHOS-2.
