Robert Kirkman’s Outcast to Cinemax
Beginning next year, Robert Kirkman will have three shows on television. Of course, The Walking Dead will return October 11th, and its spinoff show Fear the Walking Dead will premiere for its first season on August 23rd. Kirkman will also be debuting a new show for Cinemax based on his other comic book series, Outcast. Check out the haunting trailer below.
It’s definitely not The Walking Dead, which is great! Patrick Fugit plays Kyle Barnes, a man whose life is seemingly plagued with demonic events. He enlists the help of Reverend Anderson, played by Philip Glenister, to understand why these occurrences are happening to him and those around him. The first season will consist of ten episodes produced by Kirkman and Chris Black.
The comic book series was officially announced at Comic-Con in 2013 and was released in June of 2014. The issues are released mostly monthly and there are currently ten available.
The short teaser was revealed at this year’s Comic-Con where Black, Fugit, Glenister as well as pilot director Adam Wingard and costar Wrenn Schmidt discussed the upcoming drama. Kirkman was unable to attend due to a minor throat surgery. The crew discussed the heavy influence from The Exorcist, but emphasized that Kirkman strives at making the show feel new and like “its own thing.” Black added, “Every episode will have a standalone component, but they will be of a piece… There is a mythology that Robert wants to unfold about why this is happening. Hopefully, what we want to accomplish week in and week out, it’s not going to be like a police procedural show. There will be some weeks without exorcisms. We hope every episode will add a piece to this mystery.”
Sounds like a terrifyingly good time. Check out Outcast in Kirkman’s own words.
