Magneto Turned Assassin: Michael Fassbender to Star in Assassin’s Creed Live Action Movie

0

By Shirayuki on July 14th, 2012

From his role as the young Erik Lensherr or better known as Magneto in X-Men: First Class (2011) to the mechanized David in our recent sci-fi blockbuster Prometheus (2012), multi-talented Michael Fassbender is now acknowledging his allegiance to the gaming industry by co-producing and starring in the big-screen adaptation of Ubisoft’s brainchild, Assassin’s Creed. Now, before you click that “back” button because you’re thinking “Oh god, another game turn movie failure” you might want to think twice about this upcoming production.

The fact that Fassbender has chosen to be part of this project will add acting credibility to the film, which does not necessarily guarantee a five star production but provides eager audiences with promising hopes. His performance as Lieutenant Archie Hicox in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds (2009) certainly placed him on the road to stardom and as we have noticed in his more recent films, this thespian just embodies quality acting. On the physical side of things, many have noted that the star demonstrates little resemblance to Desmond Miles, Ezio Auditore da Firenze or Altaïr. Little is known, however, about who’s shoes Fassbender will fill so one cannot be so quick to judge the film under a negative light or in this case, physical attributes. It is safe to say that the Assassin’s Creed series has indeed provided very rich and varied storylines across different exotic cities such as Rome and Constantinople which leaves more than enough room for Fassbender’s acting to pull through.

No further details has been revealed about Ubisoft’s plans or the film’s release date but according to AFP.com, Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet has stated that despite Ubisoft’s mastery in producing a quality cinematic computer-generated experience, the industry has decided that a traditional live action film would be the best option for Assassin’s Creed. He goes on to state, “Humans convey more emotion on the big screen. And it shouldn’t be forgotten that actors bring viewers into the cinemas.” With Fassbender securing his role in the film, who knows what other big names we will be seeing the future cast lineup. Stay tuned.
