Jurassic World’s Massive Success Solidifies Sequel

Chris Pratt probably thought that life couldn’t get much sweeter after Guardians of the Galaxy. The unlikely hit blew up at the box offices and became a solidified franchise in Marvel history. That’s great and all, but then 2015 came and decided that Pratt hadn’t seen enough yet.

On June 12th, a previously beloved franchise was given new life. Jurassic World had a spectacular opening. It smashed records all over the world and, no big deal, became the third highest-grossing film of all time. That’s a thing that happened. Of course, when a film makes $1.56 billion you know what that means, right? Sequels!

The fifth film, currently being titled Jurassic World II, will premiere June 22nd, 2018. Writers Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, who also directed the film, will return to write the script, but a director has not yet been determined. Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have signed on for an unspecified number of sequels. Pratt mentioned in an interview that he has signed on for 38. That’s probably sarcasm. Hopefully.

Jurassic World was an adventure through the worst day ever in amusement park history. However, if you’re going to pay money to seclude yourself on an island with previously extinct animals that have been brought to life by science without the exact knowledge of just what they will do in stressful situations, then you probably signed a few waivers and should have known that this was a very real possibility. So the question is, where do we go from here? It’s highly unlikely that the park will be rebuilt, so what happens to the dinosaurs that are left? Maybe Pratt and Howard simply live a life of ignorant reptilian-filled bliss? What about the kids? How many sessions of therapy does one need after being nearly eaten by almost all of your favorite dinos?
