Dark Souls III Deals Final Blow
The latest chapter in the well-loved and much screamed at Souls series is here. PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC gamers have been playing Dark Souls III since it dropped on April 12th and praise has been flowing consistently.
The game follows the Ashen One through the Kingdom of Loric as they seek to take down the five Lords of Cinder. The gameplay follows suit of previous installments with fantastic visuals and rewarding battles. The challenges are tough, but the feeling of getting through the boss battles is one of great empowerment. It’s what the Souls series specializes in.
Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki brought Dark Souls to the world in 2011 and the gaming world went nuts. The dark, fantastical lore was a rich entry in the role-playing genre that was welcomed with open arms. The difficulty was infamous and inspired a barrage of YouTube Let’s Plays and the masterpiece that is Twitch Plays Dark Souls.
Unfortunately, Miyazaki did announce that this installment will be the final bookend to an incredible gaming trilogy. In an interview, he mentioned that he’s moved on to a new series that will be completely unrelated and that “Dark Souls is over.” There are no planned spin-offs or sequels, but the creator is also not opposed to returning to the series in the future. Or at least he said that the possibility of returning to the games is not 0%. So you’re saying there’s a chance!
All in all, the Dark Souls trilogy is one of beauty and valor and III is a gratifying send-off. In fact, the last chapter may be the shining star in the series. It’s also arguably the most difficult, so prepare those vocal cords, because there’s sure to be ample amounts of pleading with bosses and cursing at game mechanics.
