The apocalypse is near! The X-Men: Apocalypse anyway. May 27th is coming up faster than you think and yet we’re still waiting for an officially released trailer. Sigh.
While you wait impatiently, get excited for the next trick up Singer’s sleeve. Via Instagram, Singer let the world know that he was bringing back an old classic for his next project.
It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film. A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond. #julesverne #20000leaguesunderthesea #nemo

The classic novel by Jules Verne was published in 1870 and has subsequently been released as a film in 1954 and as a former attraction at Disney World that still haunts my claustrophobic mother’s nightmares. The story follows the a crew aboard the Abraham Lincoln and their search for a mysterious monster who is terrorizing the seas.
According to the cover of the script, Singer will be reuniting with his Jack the Giant Slayer writer, Dan Studney. Deadline reported that the director has already shown 20th Century Fox the script, but so far there’s no word if the studio is biting. It appears that this project is also separate from the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea that Disney has been working on with David Fincher in talks to direct.
As for the X-Men Universe, it seems like things may be fine without Singer, depending on the success of the spinoffs. The Deadpool film is being very hyped and will release before Apocalypse on February 12th. The film stars Ryan Reynolds and is being directed by Tim Miller. The film featuring Gambit is supposedly beginning filing this fall to coincide with the hopeful release of October 7th, 2016. However, recently it was announced that director Rupert Wyatt had to walk away from the project due to scheduling conflicts and his replacement has not yet been revealed. Then fans, some fans, can get excited about the third installment of the standalone Wolverine trilogy. The film will be be the final one featuring Hugh Jackman as the clawed crusader and will be released on March 3rd, 2017.
