A Charmed Reboot?
During late October 2013, it was announced that CBS was apparently in the works of rebooting Aaron Spelling’s magical eight season series, Charmed (1998-2006). Charmed is a show that seemingly, though unintentionally, paved the way for future television shows involving witches such as The Originals, American Horror Story: Coven, The Secret Circle and Witches of East End to only name a few. Yet, the possibility of this popular series receiving a reboot has caused a bit of an uproar amongst the long-time, dedicated fans of the franchise
Personally, when I first discovered the few articles circulating the web about a possible Charmed reboot, I was shocked. Charmed was a show that I had first come across in 2003 at the age of nine, and it had remained a place of sanctuary until its finale in 2006. I love the show dearly, yet the idea of rebooting the series does not appeal to me. This appears to be the case for a number of the regular cast members, though I believe Alyssa Milano (who starred as Phoebe Halliwell during the entire series’ run) said it best when she went to Twitter to announce her own dislike for a possible reboot:
I find myself agreeing with Milano’s comment. Charmed‘s last season ended in 2006, which was almost eight years ago, definitely too close to reboot series that is still as prominent as Charmed. It actually makes me think that these television networks are running out of new ideas. Instead of a Charmed remake written by Party of Five‘s Chris Keyser and Sydney Sidner, CBS should be focusing on creating and producing fresh, new shows (even if they have witchcraft as the main plot). They shouldn’t be re-imagining series that don’t need to be touched so close to them finishing.
Though, that being said, what do you guys think of the possibility of a Charmed remake? Too soon?
