Peeking at AMC’s Preacher
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have been the minds behind some of the most memorable comedies of the past decade, and although the duo’s Green Hornet wasn’t great…they’re trying their hand at another comic book adaptation. This time, however, they’ve got the big guns over at AMC and Breaking Bad writer/producer Sam Catlin to help out. Check out the first official for AMC’s Preacher below.
The comic book Preacher was published from 1995-200 and released by DC Comics subsidiary Vertigo. Preacher spins the tale of Jesse Custer, played by Dominic Cooper, as he realizes his powers of both good and evil on his search for actual God. Custer will be joined by his exceptionally gun-slinging ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy.
The storyline does dive into some gritty and religious themes which shouldn’t trip up AMC at all but it will be interesting to see how the trio handles it. Goldberg and Rogen have been fans of the comics for over ten years and have been eager to bring it to a wider audience. Catlin spoke with The Verge about the collaboration saying, “They’re very wealthy, stoned children. And huge fans of the comic. And it just turned out to be a great collaboration between the three of us, because there were certain things you can’t do for TV, or on a TV schedule.” He continued that it was a healthy mix of their love of the series and his “how do we turn this crazy world into something that’s accessible.” Get a sneak at the latest teaser.

If you’re up for dark, intense and possibly offensive content then it seems like Preacher is most definitely the place to be. The series’ first season will premiere on May 22nd and will run for ten episodes.
