PREVIOUSLY ON: The Walking Dead – Trouble Due East (The Season Finale Is Coming)
First aired March 27th, 2016.
Carol (played by Melissa McBride) is shown packing supplies as she prepares to leave Alexandria. Tobin (played by Jason Douglas) unexpectedly drops by and later that night while he sleeps, she sneaks out.
Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) starts building up Alexandria’s defenses, fearing another attack. Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) drives off on his motorcycle to get revenge on the Dwight (played by Austin Amelio) who killed Denise (played by Merritt Weaver). Glenn (played by Steven Yeun), Michonne (played by Danai Gurira) and Rosita (played by Christian Serratos) go after him. When Rick (played by Andrew Lincoln) learns Carol left he takes off with Morgan (played by Lennie James) and instructs everyone else to stay behind and prepare a defense. While Carol is driving a group of men (presumably Saviors) in a pickup shoot her car off the road. She feigns weakness and lies while they interrogate her but they recognize the design of her car as being from Alexandria. When they least expect it, Carol opens fire with a hidden gun and after struggling with a few manages to kill them all. Rick and Morgan debate whether Carol leaving is proof that Morgan’s views have merit. They drive upon the scene but find no sign of Carol and follow a trail (not noticing one Savior was left alive who walks off unnoticed).
Everyone running off in different directions is never a good sign, but with the Saviors lurking around you just knew things were going to get messy. Daryl’s anger and reasoning for going after Dwight is justified; every time they meet something happens to Daryl or someone around him. Blind rage makes people lose focus but Daryl is one of the most popular characters on the show, losing him would be a huge gamble. Of course the moment Carol leaves Alexandria because she can’t handle all the killing she would end up taking out a squad of Saviors. Love it or hate it, fighting is what Carol is built for, the way she made up an entire fake backstory on the fly and how fast she took them out. Just like there are people who hate their jobs but stick with it because they’re good at it, Carol needs to embrace her skill set. However that Savior walking off with her cross was an ominous sign; she’s killed many Saviors (along with Daryl) so when they come for payback those are the people they’ll be looking for. But like Daryl, Carol is a fan (and personal) favorite so I’m hoping she’ll live past the turbulent season finale coming up.
Rosita is in favor of allowing Daryl to kill the Saviors but Michonne and Glenn are determined to find him before he gets himself killed. They find Daryl who refuses to leave because of the guilt he feels for letting Dwight live once before, Rosita joins Daryl while Michonne and Glenn turn back. Unfortunately they are found by Dwight and other Saviors and get held at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Morgan questions why Rick is trying to find Carol and mentions her actions at the prison but Rick defends her actions as the right thing to do and that she is family to him. They find a farm and see a man but walkers show up. Rick tries to shoot him but Morgan stops him. Morgan reveals how the Wolf he kept hostage saved Denise during the walker attack which led to her saving Carl (played by Chandler Riggs). Morgan volunteers to stay and look for Carol and tells Rick to go back saying he shouldn’t continue taking chances.
Take note everyone; whenever you’re in any kind of risky situation the “let’s split up gang” thing NEVER works. I can’t figure out if Dwight is really skilled or just really lucky that he manages to get the drop on them every time they meet. Rick’s defending of Carol’s actions at the prison shows how much he’s evolved to the world, I just wish Morgan would catch up. His example about Denise and the Wolf at best is half baked, the Wolf tried to kidnap Denise before he saved her. It was clear he wasn’t going to change his murderous ways, he just ended up doing one good thing before he died and Morgan thinks his method is justified. Maybe once Morgan meets Negan he’ll finally realize that not everyone is worth trying to save.
Rick and Abraham (played by Michael Cudlitz) discuss their fears of getting close to people as Rick waits nervously for Michonne to return. Enid (played by Katelyn Nacon) gives Maggie a haircut and during Maggie begins to suffer painful stomach cramps. Daryl and Rosita find Glenn and Michonne but are found by Dwight who shoots Daryl. It’s too early for Maggie to be in labor so sadly it looks like she and Glenn may not be parents after all. Dwight didn’t kill Daryl. If/when he dies it will happen onscreen not with an off screen execution. Besides, a character like Daryl should only be killed by a major antagonist like Negan and not some low level thug like Dwight.
Quotes & Thoughts
“There is no right; there’s just the wrong that doesn’t pull you down.”
We’re poised to lose at least one major character, and from what I’ve read on the internet it’s going to be a rough episode.
“Maggie has us on a schedule, and I’m not pissing off a pregnant lady.”
After nearly an entire season of buildup Negan better make a huge splash in the finale.
