Gerry Anderson’s Gemini Force One: Black Horizon
Gerry Anderson was a brilliant mind in the science fiction world and it was a sad day when he passed in December of 2012. It seems, however, that Mr. Anderson wasn’t quite done with his work and his son, Jamie, was eager to see his final project finished and brought to the world.
It was discovered that Gerry had started a novel and Jamie brought the unfinished work to author MG Harris, popular for her own creation, The Joshua Files. Jamie launched a Kickstarter campaign to pay for publishing and received £33,463 from backers, far surpassing his original goal. It was a beautiful way for fans to contribute to Gerry’s final concept.
Gemini Force One: Black Horizon will be released this April and will be followed by Ghost Mine in September, with a final book in the trilogy coming in the Spring of 2016. Black Horizon is an action-dense, introductory story. Readers meet Benedict, or Ben, Carrington, a sixteen-year-old boy grieving the loss of his father. Even though they are extremely wealthy, Ben and his mother are kind spirits who want to help everyone, no matter the personal sacrifice. Our protagonist begins to learn that he is stronger than he thinks and begins to dabble in brave adventures to prove himself worthy of the elite organization known as Gemini Force.
It’s a fun ride that young audiences will definitely enjoy. There are tense moments of action that surprised me with their detail and it should be noted that it’s by no means a watered-down novel meant for strictly for young adults. The first few chapters contain just enough grit to get you hooked and run with your attention. It’s always nice to see young characters overcome life’s twists and turns while engaging in witty banter. It’s a fun adventure stemming from the creative mind of Gerry Anderson and brought to life by M. G. Harris. I kept turning pages and wanted more at the end, even if the story wasn’t overly engaging, nor were all the characters super important to me. I think this could be improved upon in the next installments, but overall it was an enjoyable read and worth my time.
