In the video game world, everyone is talking a whole lot about Bloodborne. The game comes from director Hidetaka Miyazaki and is exclusive to the Playstation 4. It takes place in the city of Yharnam where a traveler has come in search of a medical remedy. It turns out the city that supposedly houses this great antidote houses many monstrous creatures, citizens turned by illness and just some terrifying beasts that would like nothing more than to murder you…over and over again.
Bloodborne is all about getting your blood pumping. You will feel those moments of utter rage when you die for the tenth time fighting a certain boss and you will question whether or not the game is worth continuing. Do I want to die over and over again in more humiliating ways, dropping all my items and experience along the way? Absolutely. That’s what makes this game so good. All that shaking with absolute madness is so worth it once you clear that hurdle. Every small step forward in that sickeningly cruel world is so worth it, and that’s why it is the highest rated next gen game to date.
The visuals are stunning, the sounds are horrifying and its always unsettling. You know what shouldn’t be considered horror? Jump scares, because they’re just cheap. You know what’s actually terrifying? Being brutally beaten and watching your hard work wither away into some brood’s eyeballs. That being said, if you do make your way through Bloodborne I can guarantee you will have a moment where you’re prancing around, shouting and declaring yourself a hero for tackling an obstacle placed in front of you, and that’s the value of risk-and-reward gaming.
