TRAILER TALK: NEW International Trailer AND Original Trailer (2016)
The time has come to feast your eyes upon one of the weirdly most controversial films of the year, Ghostbusters! Check it.
The trailer seems to play it really safe. Much like The Force Awakens, the movie seems to stick to the original as more of a remake than a reboot. It seems like a checklist of things your mom would want to know before she goes to the film. Kristen Wiig plays scientist Erin Gilbert and she’s really good at quantum physics. Kate McKinnon plays Jill Holtzmann, a brilliant and quirky engineer. Leslie Jones is the wise-cracking street smart New Yorker, Patty Tolan, who will likely provide most of the comic relief and Melissa McCarthy…is there. The ensemble is there but very little of what we see in the teaser feels fresh or tailored to the new foursome.
So the team is going to gallivant throughout New York City while spreading joy and messages of friendship. Sounds good, but again…it sounds safe. The first trailers usually are and the later reveals more often than not deliver the goods (looking at you, Batman v Superman). The effects are fun and family friendly and the heavy dose of nostalgia should please fans, but it’s hard to tell if the story will deviate much from the original.
It’s a bit early to judge, if I’m honest. Even the more recently released international trailer is noticeably better. Viewers get more Chris Hemsworth, which is always a plus, and commentary on all the hate the film has gotten since the announcement of its conception. See what you think.

Better, right? Only time will tell what the marketing campaign will entail, and I encourage everyone to keep an open mind. The film, directed by Paul Feig, will be released in time for your summer blockbuster fun on July 15th.
