TRAILER TALK: Krampus

It’s September, so that means that it’s reasonable to get excited about Halloween and the spooky horror happenings hitting theaters this year. I am allowed to be a little annoyed that my local Target has strung up Christmas lights and already taken over the garden section with yuletide cheer. However, if you’re into holiday horror then I highly recommend the recently released trailer for Krampus from Legendary Pictures. Check it out!

Does it strike a genuine sense of terror into my soul? Well, no, but it does look like the type of film that walks that thin line of horror and comedy, and that’s something to get excited about.

The movie comes from director Michael Dougherty, who directed the horror fan favorite Trick ‘r Treat and will be released this December 4th. Adam Scott and Toni Collette star as a happy couple trying to get through the stressful season without incident, but it appears that the infamous Krampus has other plans.

Krampus is a famous figure of folklore who dons large horns and hooves and visits those who have been naughty and beats them into being nice. What a lovely Christmas tale! Krampus is also called the Anti- St. Nick or The Christmas Devil and comes from a longstanding tradition in Germany. As per tradition, children leave out their shoes on Krampusnacht, or Krampus Night, and the next morning the shoe would contain either presents or a rod, an indication they were bad. Then the horrific holiday hellion would swat the naughty kids with a bundle of birch sticks and carry them away to his lair. What a fun way to terrify children into listening to you!

Featuring awesome comedic talents like Dave Koechner and Conchata Ferrell the movie should have some quality laugh moments. The kind that are intentional and not the ones where the characters are overacting or the monster delivers a line like a computer would. On that note, if the words “Am I KRAMP-ing your style?” don’t come from this creature’s mouth, then this film will have one super disappointed fan.
