Top Five X-Men Mutations

Mystique

In my opinion, Mystique has one of the coolest mutations, but also one of the most controversial. In her true form Mystique is blue with scale-like abrasions over her body that allow her to take on the form of others. Her power is truly magnificent in the way she can so easily change her appearance, and would prove incredibly useful in many situations where I would rather not be noticed. However, it is also a debilitating mutation in that she cannot hide her mutation unless she takes on a form other than her natural one.

Storm

The powers that Storm posses are incredible, she can control the weather on Earth and extraterrestrial planets. Unlike other isolated mutations, Storm’s powers allow her to affect vast areas of land.  She seems more akin to Mother Nature than a mutant, and the strength of her abilities lies in her will power and strength of her body. For my own selfish reasons, her abilities would be convenient for those days when I just didn’t feel like going into work or school and a snow storm just happened to form.

Jean Grey aka Marvel Girl aka Phoenix

The girl with many powers deserves many names, and as one of the founders of X-Men, it is no surprise that she is incredibly powerful. At her ‘weakest’, she has the power of telepathy which allows her to read, control and manipulate the minds of others, along with controlling other mutant powers or absorbing them and she can make a telepathic force that can stun or kill people. She also has telekinetic powers that allow her to manipulate objects in Earth’s atmosphere; you know, just your basic mutant abilities, no big deal. However, at her strongest she becomes Phoenix where she can control subatomic particles, fly, transport herself to other planets, and resurrect herself. Do I even need to explain why I would want her powers? I didn’t think so.

Beast

It can’t all be about the fancy powers that come with mutations though, sometimes those mutations that are best are just heightened human abilities. Beast, before drinking an experimental solution, had the physical appearance of a human, besides his feet, only with enhanced human characteristics. For example, super human strength, agility, and speed, which are all helpful in hand-to-hand combat. After he mutated further though, his super human abilities increased even further, and his mutation became a physical one too, as he took on animalistic features, as well as instincts. However, despite his animalistic tendencies, Beast is also a genius with an intellect that matches or goes beyond even Professor X.

Banshee

Banshee has quite an unsuspecting power, one that you wouldn’t think very much of in the long run, superhuman lungs—not very frightening. However, his mutation allows him to stun people, confuses sonic devices and allows him to fly, all of which are aspects of his mutation that are useful in a fight. So although he doesn’t have the flashiest mutation, he is just as worthy to be a fighter.
