The Matrix… Mr Anderson!

0

By azzib287 on March 31st, 2013

This futuristic film was very well timed being released near the turn of the millennium, so questions about what the future may hold etc was probably on most peoples minds. This all being perfectly relevant with such a film, it added to the overall atmosphere and helped the audience believe in the concept, of this world they were seeing. There wasn’t a lot of films so far fetched and imaginative at the time, as The Matrix, leaving audiences confused on the narrative, reportedly many had to watch it several times again, (me included) before they understood the general idea of what it was all about.

The Matrix follows the lonely character of Neo, distraught by something he cannot fully understand about the world, living a life of an illegal technological hacker and in a dead end job, his life appears bleak at best. Until he picks up a very weird message from an anonymous caller, who happens to know things he doesn’t, unimaginable things (in a different context this could sound weird: ) “Trinity” guaranties answers when they meet.

From this moment as Morpheus mentions in his eery manner, we see how far this rabbit hole goes. Note that’s not actually a reference to a rabbit hole, no experiments with rabbits occurred in the making of the film.

The films blinding focus on technology was clearly its primary hook, throughout the film, as Neo discovers another world, not unlike his, but the new one is the real world. Que the battle for freedom, constant questions and simply fantastic fight sequences, with “agents” who are keeping people blinded from the truth. In my attempt to not give too much information away about the film, I may have confused you in the same way the film did to so many people when it first came out. In which case your prepared for the film, as confusion is the name of the game from start to finish, where The Matrix is concerned.
