The Damage Done by the Force Awakens Teaser
Feast your eyes on J.J. Abrams’ tasty new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The teaser has already racked up over 41 million views on YouTube and has been spoofed a dozen times. There’s also been all sorts of complaints and speculation, but we’ll get to that.
The trailer focuses on the new, which is smart, because they knew people would be looking for a shot of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, or Mark Hamill referencing their previous work. Instead we see a sweaty John Boyega in stormtrooper gear, which sent the internet idiots ablaze with racist remarks. There is a rolling droid, and a strange speeder bike ridden by actress Daisy Ridley. None of the actors get any real screen time, but Oscar Isaac, who was recently cast as the titular character in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, gives good face as an X-Wing pilot. The other highly controversial snippet is the newly designed lightsaber. I can’t put it into better words than the true geek himself, Stephen Colbert.
To get to the lightsaber part skip to 3:20.
Getting a good look at the X-Wings was fun, but watching the Tie Fighters whizz after the Millennium Falcon brought back good memories, and Abram’s Star Trek flashbacks. The score was also fantastic and filled with nostalgia and was confirmed to be John Williams, the composer for every film in the franchise.
Yes, that’s new John Williams score in #TheForceAwakens teaser.

The strangest rumor circling was that the voiceover was done by fangirl favorite Benedict Cumberbatch. “I am not the voice of the Star Wars trailer, nor am I the hooded character with the rather cool new lightsaber.” he told Radio Times. Guys, c’mon, he can’t be in everything.
