Star-Crossed Review: Season One, Episode Nine – “Some Consequence Yet Hanging in the Stars”

I called it right. Castor is a bad guy and he did cause the ship to crash. Roman’s father gave orders not to land on Earth because it was inhabited and Castor made sure they did.

Roman tries to tell the Atrians what Castor did but ends up getting captured along with Drake and his mother, whose name is Saroya (played by Louise Lombard). Castor needs the flight recorder to keep his secret from coming out, but Since Roman is family he won’t kill him. Instead, he’ll just have him falsely arrested like he did Saroya. His plan isn’t to start a war with humans but to have Atrians continue living separately from them inside the Sector. Castor believes that is the only future for their people and hopes that they can one day become their own sovereign nation with him as their ruler.

All signs were pointing at Castor still being a Trag, so although the reveal of his actual plan was definitely a surprise, I can’t see how it would work. Most if not all Atrians seem to hate living in the Sector and want to live out in the world. There doesn’t seem to be any way that Castor could convince them that they should remain there for the rest of their lives.

Emery ends up saving the day by luring Castor into a trap with Trag leader Vega. Vega gives up the flight recorder in exchange for everyone’s release because she has bigger plans for Saroya. Saroya is the only person capable of building a device called a Suvek, something that can help the Trags kill several humans at once. At first Saroya refuses because she doesn’t believe in terrorism but is eventually convinced that, without protection from Vega, she and Drake will be killed by Castor. After this, she agrees to build the Suvek.

Vega has certainly proven herself to be an intelligent, calculating villain. That being said, the fact that Saroya joined her so quickly felt improbable. Due to her extreme hatred of the Trags, it would have been more likely for her to look for help from someone like Roman, rather than aiding in the slaughter of possibly millions of humans. Emery and Roman giving up the flight recorder was a major mistake, especially since Castor has probably destroyed it by now. They should have exposed him while they had the chance, but instead Castor exposed their relationship to the Atrians and made Roman out to be a traitor to their kind. I have no idea why that would make Roman less credible, especially since terrorism is worse than a secret teen romance.

Grayson spends the episode retracing his steps from the night he was abducted by Drake and Zoe. He remembers Drake attacking Zoe and comes to the conclusion that Drake murdered her, unaware that she was an Atrian and Drake saved his life. Until now, all of Grayson’s storylines were about how much he liked Emery and tried to be her boyfriend, so it was cool to see him do something different. He could even join his parents in being anti-Atrian and form a cohesive terrorist family unit.
