Many will face this in different ways; I will give you a comprehensive insight into the world of science fiction movies. Your getting massive amounts of information already, just by looking above you’ll notice true titans of the genre.
When someone thinks about science fiction film, it’s difficult to sum it up in a few words when it can involve and has included the entire realms of the universe, which is by our best knowledge limitless, in an ever constant expanding cycle. Until we realize we have a plug socket attached to the back of our heads, this is where we stand in terms of the universe and our place in it.
Sci-Fi has been around for a long time, and was in it’s infancy around the early 20th century, the films featured, were more experiments than perfected craftsmanship, that it is today. One of the most notable works being, “Dracula” though laughable now, was truly shocking for it’s time and in some respects still is. Even today some directors use the old way of filming for a different look. One of the silent films out in 2012 was “The Artist.”
It’s another way of exploiting our ancestral love for the mystery of the stars. Since the earliest times in our history, there has always been a true fascination with the vast expanse above our heads. We make these entertainment sweets as a way to get a possible perspective into an alternate world, to make fun of, and in some respects prepare us should anything similar arise.
Sadly were in a world where the majority of films see the cinema screen less and less, as it inevitably rolls into another DVD case, with frequent remakes, over used formulas and exaggerated special effects.
The countless times we’ve looked on that shelf and seen a DVD, never heard of, seen advertised, or an underrated film, is now common place.
As people’s demand for stories grows ever insatiably at an alarming rate, the big film machines naturally resort to churning out any old crap. Pleasing the general populace is the number one goal for any entertainment company, including that of Hollywood and Sci-Fi films in general. But do we need quite so many films? To please quickly, is the films bad quality entertaining enough? Bad films can often be ridiculously humorous and/or entertaining! Good things do come to those who wait, is the saying.
If you’re thinking of diving into Sci-Fi movies and need the ultimate experience of the genre, then I suggest watching any number of the films featured, in the pictures above. You’ll want to make room for posters on you wall though, as after you watch some of them you’ll become an undisputed Sci-Fi fan.
