New Web Series Comes to Dailymotion

0

By Carly Fjeld on March 26th, 2015

Imagine a drug that allowed users to slip into a realistic dream state where they could do what they wanted. A wheelchair bound person could walk or a deaf person could be surrounded with music they’ve been missing. It sounds nice, doesn’t it? Now imagine reality hits and people find a way to criminalize that drug. Men and women escape responsibilities and fall into a realm of debauchery, sex and infinite success and experiences. Of course it would be highly addictive! If it were real, that is.

This is the premise of the upcoming web series, Portal. The first episode hits the web on March 31st over on Dailymotion as their first scripted, original drama. The project comes from Future Artists, a group of independent film makers based in Manchester, England. You can check out the teasers for Portal right here:

It feels as if Steven Soderbergh directed an episode of Black Mirror. It’s a very edgy and stylized setting and in the premiere episode it forces viewers to evaluate what’s real. Are we seeing a slightly futuristic Britain or a world under the influence of Portal? Users of the drug slip into a comatose state to allow the effects to wash over them and that power, the alternate reality, becomes addictive.

The series will explore the opposing world over five episodes. Director and co-producer Mark Ashmore describes the impact of escaping reality in an interview with Sci Fi London, “Alter-realities have always been a popular sensation in modern society, from games such as The Sims to the global subculture of Cosplay. The concept of a virtual world as an accessible reality is boldly explored in this drama, which takes a look at how technology is the ‘new drug’ of today.”

So, would you pop that pill?

You can check out Portal’s Facebook, Future Artist’s Twitter and website and catch the premiere episode on March 31st.
