MOVIE REVIEW: Horns (2014)

It’s true: we all have our demons…some more than others. How do you measure evil? And how can you pinpoint who’s truly wicked in a fog of lies and deceit? Alexandre Aja’s film, Horns (2014), poses these questions and much more in this new dark comedy with Daniel Radcliffe as the leading man. Horns is an adaptation of a book with the same title by Joe Hill (yeah, by the way… he’s Stephen King’s son).

After the brutal death of his childhood sweetheart (played by Juno Temple), Ig Perrish (Radcliffe) is ostracized by his community. Everyone thinks he’s the killer, but no one can prove it. Even his own parents! If ya own mama ain’t got yo back, who will?! So, it’s no surprise to the judgmental townsfolk when, one morning, Iggy wakes up with a physical manifestation of the evil that they already think is within him—horns.

With this newfound deformity comes a new set of skills that will help bring Ig closer to the truth about his girlfriend.

People around the globe will hate me for this (especially because I haven’t seen any of Radcliffe’s other work, not even The Woman in Black (2012)), but I have to admit it. I couldn’t stop myself from thinking: HARRY POTTER HARRY POTTER HARRY POTTER HARRY POTTER. I mean, I’m sorry. I know Radcliffe is trying to drift away from his heroic childhood character, but c’mon! He’s asking for it with this one. Watch the trailer! Do you see him with those snakes? What does that make you think of? Your brain goes straight there, I know it does.

Shoving my ten-year-old self into a closet, Horns really does have everything seasoned moviegoers, such as ourselves, can enjoy. With an impossibly beautiful setting, we’ve got the skeleton of a love story composed of secrets and lies, filled with drama, suspense, some bloody deaths, jaw-dropping shock-inducing moments and, let’s not forget, superb acting from a mixture of well-known and equally talented Indie-circuit actors.

Horns is set to release on Halloween (October 31st) in the US, but if you’re an AT&T user (*raises hand*), you can find this baby On Demand today (for $11…geez…glad my mom’s got that bill…haha just kidding, I didn’t actually pay for it)! Look at the trailer!
