Limetown: Should’ve Been A One-Shot?

Hello everyone!

I am so excited to announce one of three NEW writers who’ll be reviewing for Sci-Fi Bloggers! She’s a horror fan, a Stephen King fan, and a phenomenal and dedicated writer. Please give a warm welcome to Throne Rhodes!

Brandon Scott, Editor-In-Chief

Limetown is a podcast that follows a young woman attempting to discover the truth about the disappearance of the people of Limetown. She has a particular drive to do so because one of her family members was there in Limetown, and his body was never found.

I was enraptured until the season one finale. Everything after that felt a bit like someone stretching a story out to get the most out of it when it could have been left as it was.

And by that, I’m not saying that anything after it was terrible. It had merely lost its shine. Something about the way season one had ended was a bit too much like a real ending.

All the secrets had been laid out on the table, and there was no further intrigue. It had ended with a bang. And I wanted it to be final. Even as the trailer for season two began, I was sincerely done with the story. It had left me all shaken up. And I loved it. But the prospect of a season two was not anything I was really happy getting into.

But it’s still worth the listen. At least, up to the end of the first season. The voice actors have heart and the writer made very compelling characters. It was nice to hear their back and forth. And it didn’t feel forced.

As a lover of Stephen King, I was not too put off by any means in regard to the dark or macabre situations. And there are quite a few. Not to mention how well they were executed, giving me chills. But for anyone with a weak stomach, this is not something I would recommend listening to late at night unless you don’t mind sleeping with the lights on. There are a lot of well-placed sound effects, and it sometimes gets very loud.

It is a thriller. And that describes it very well. I couldn’t stop listening. And if someone asked me to listen to it with them, I would listen to the first season again without hesitation.
