Karel Zeman (1910-1989) was a genius of movie animation. He was born in Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic). Karel Zeman is known for a number of different adventures, like those of Baron Munchhausen, which he filmed in the 60s, or Sinbad, in 1971, Journey to the Beginning of Time holds a special place in many fans hearts, if only because learning about the primeval earth belongs so strongly to our childhood years. Zeman, who died in 1989 shortly before the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia, enabled his young viewers to visit a long lost forgotten past that we all carry within our genetic make-up.
Zeman created real movie gems and he changed generations of young people in communistic Czechoslovakia and other European countries. His works got worldwide respect because he created miracles without resources.
Like all good filmmakers, Karel Zeman enabled us to dream.
Hat Off Karel Zeman!
Karel Zeman Movies – Sci fi and fantasy gems you cannot miss
Journey to the Beginning of Time – 1955 (Cesta do Praveku, Jurney to the Prehistory)
Story of four boys in a prehistoric world. This little gem of a movie is proof that limitations inspire creativity, and that the inability to graphically show anything you conceive forces the filmmaker to be more resourceful and clever with his choice of material.
The Fabulous World of Jules Verne – 1958 (A Deadly Invention, Vynalez zkazy)
Truly unique and stunning film of Jules Verne’s “For The Flag” by the Czech master director Karel Zeman.

The outrageous Baron Munchausen tells of his many adventures, from meeting the Man in the Moon to defeating a Turkish army all by himself.
Krabat 1978 – (Krabat: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Carodejuv Ucen)
Dark fantasy story – dark magic, evil wizard, true love, ravens and fantastic effects.

Nice.
I am from Germany. I have seen many listed movies. Krabat movie was absolutely wonderful.
We have created a remake in 2008.
I agree with your article. Mr. Zeman was " genial gentleman of animation".
It´s amazing the way the director wants us to percieve Jules Verne´s world.
Rather than a movie it seems to be moving images taken right out Verne´s illustration books.
Many thanks for this post! I saw these movies during my childhood.
