JK Rowling Sends Fans into a Frenzy

If you weren’t aware of the intense fandom that is the ravenous Harry Potter community, then you need to explain to me where you’ve been the last fifteen years. However, there’s no time for that now, because author J.K. Rowling has been tweeting. A cryptic message showed up on her feed on October 6th, and word quickly spread that the message was an anagram for something deliciously secretive.

Tumblr erupted, Facebook was sent into chaos, and tons of guesses poured in on Twitter. Fans young and old are always hopeful of another adventure into the world of witchcraft and wizardry. There were a lot of good guesses, and some really far off ones that Rowling addressed herself.

The Reddit community thought they had cracked the code to reveal, “Harry returns! Won’t say any details now. A week off. No comment.” This sent muggle hearts aflutter. Unfortunately, Rowling shut us all down revealing that the anagram involved Newt Scamander, the upcoming hero of the book turned film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The next day a winner was revealed. The true sentence turned out to be the beginning of the synopsis for the upcoming film, and screenplay Rowling is currently working on, “Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours…”

It’s likely we won’t see Harry Potter on screen again, or get a new book detailing an adventure of Harry, Ron and Hermione, but a return to the magical world will be warmly received. Fantastic Beasts is a spin-off of a textbook featured in Harry’s world, and the film is expected to be released in 2016. As previously mentioned, Rowling is currently working on the screenplay and David Yates, who directed the final four installments of the Potter series, is slated to direct. Currently there are no actors attached to the project.
