Life got you down? Too much negativity in the news? Do you feel like there is nothing special anymore? Well, I get it: it’s easy to feel, and far be it from me to deny you your emotional responses, but, if I may lighten up things—counterpoint all this negativity, keep reading.
Because the world is not so bad as people say, you know. We’re kind of in a cool time here. A.I. assistants like Alexa, the first instances of self-driving cars; we put a dummy in a vehicle, named him Starman, and launched him into space—just because we can.
Oh yeah, and we made a space station. And there are videos of it on YouTube.
I am not a science-minded gentleman, sadly—though I have a deep respect for those that are—but even I know the ISS is a necessary piece of culture. As naïve as it may sound, it’s a symbol of hope.
Every big thing we do has the potential to ignite mankind to a new height. And, though the International Space Station is an older thing now, it’s still proof, as proven as it gets, that we are a species that can go into space, that does go into space, and that will go into space.
Can you imagine trying to explain the ISS, the logistics and realities of space travel, to a person from the 1800’s? Modern problems may abound, and may seem overwhelming, but, look back and see how far we’ve come—how mind-blowing it is that we can go to space, and build something there.
I dreamed of that when I was a kid—and I still get to dream about it now, because it’s real.
How is it possible to not have at least a tiny spark of hope and optimism when we’ve got something to look up to, quite literally?
