GUEST POST: I Like Being Scared
Keeping the Halloween post train rolling, we have our second guest: Erika Lance, horror writer. You can find her on her blog here.

As a horror writer, I am asked frequently where my inspiration comes from. The most frequently asked question is: “Are you overcoming some traumatic part of your life?”
The simple answer is: No. I actually have not had much trauma that I carry with me.
What I do carry with me is those times and those things that have scared me. Usually just for a very short time. Those moments when you get goosebumps, or heard a sound where there shouldn’t be one, or when you could swear someone was following or watching you.
It is these kinds of moments that I strive to create in my writing, simply because I like being scared. It is electric. In that moment your heart is racing and you suddenly have superpowers that let you hear and see things better than you did before.
Experiencing that rush is not something that happens frequently in life. You can see, however, from the success of horror films, novels, and haunted attractions, that it is something we crave and enjoy.
So, during this time of fright, I hope one thing for you: That your heart races and you get the crap scared out of you (not literally).
