Episode seven left us with enough cliffhangers to go around. We were left wondering what happened to the Stark boys, Jon Snow, and what Catelyn did with Jamie. Luckily, episode eight answered all our questions and then some more.
After royally screwing himself over last episode and dragging the wilding girl helplessly around the North Jon Snow finally found himself surrounded by the wildings he was trying to destroy. When the wildlings decided they didn’t have much need for another ‘crow’ and all seemed helpless for Jon Ygritte showed that she might actually be a future alliance to Jon. Whether as his savior or his lover it is yet to be seen. But I do know for sure what will be seen soon enough, and that is the King of the wildlings, the mysterious man who used to be a member of the Night Watch.
“Killing Jamie Lannister would not buy life for your children, but returning him to kings landing may buy life for mine”
The last we saw of Catelyn Stark she want standing over Jamie Lannister with a look of pure hatred, and for a second I did actually believe that she might have killed him right then and there. However, Catelyn had plans that were much grander than killing Jamie for just reminding her that her husband whored around in the past. No, Catelyn wants her family back and she will go to great lengths to make sure that happens, even if it involves betraying the trust of her eldest. So when she lets Jamie free we see Robb like we’ve never seen him before. “Jamie lannister has played you for a fool”, he says, right before he proceeds to make his own mother a prisoner. In this case Robb was right, Cersei will never give Sansa back now that she is ready to bear a child, and well, we all know that they haven’t has Arya for a while now.
“The girl must obey, the girl will obey”
Speaking of Arya, it seems she is finally going to get her freedom with the help of her assassin friend, Jaqen H’ghar. I’ve been waiting since he first offered her the three lives for her to mark Tywin for death, and I finally thought this would be the episode. He was riding out to ambush Robb Stark’s camp. If he were to die that would be the perfect moment. However, Arya was too late, and instead she chose freedom. Now her and her friends are off, to where only gods knows, but I cant wait to see Tywin’s face when he comes back to find that his water girl fled camp.
“I will hurt you for this, the day will come when you think you are safe and happy, and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you will know the debt is paid”
I say it every time, but I just can’t stop: Tyrion Lannister is my favorite character on the show. He is constantly battling against his family, but at the same time he is trying to protect Kings Landing from his malicious and idiotic nephew who thinks he can go into battle and survive, while his sister is plotting behind his back. This week we saw a part of Tyrion that we’ve never seen, and I quite enjoyed it. It was fear, fear for the woman he loves, Shea, and though we saw him with his fair share of whores in season one, we’ve never seen this side of him. There was genuine terror in his eyes when he thought Cersei was going to bring in Shea, and I can’t wait to see how Tyrion will repay his debt to his sister for what she’s done.
“A mother does not flee without her children”
Is Daenerys pissing anyone else off? She used to be a great character; bold, daring, and willing to sacrifice for her people. Those days have gone and now all she talks about is her rightful claim to the throne that she isn’t willing to make concessions to get, and lets not even get started on her and her dragons. I wish it were that simple, but unfortunately we have to mention the dragons, because they are all she talks about. How long can we listen to her yell and scream about her missing dragons, and how they are her children. We get it Khaleesi we really do, but you’re going to get everyone you love killed because of your dragons. Also, considering all but one of The Thirteen were murdered in front of you, I think it’s time to leave Qarth. Just saying.
“Hope this will be the last place they’d think to look”
Of course we can’t forget about the littlest Stark boys whose fate seemed quite grim at the end of the last episode when Theon raised the bodies of two burnt little boys in front of the citizens of Winterfell. Even though it turned out to not be them, and I don’t know if there was ever a question that they really were dead, the fact that Theon burnt two innocent boys leads to a lot of questions about his sanity at the moment. The boys can’t hide forever, and Theon will soon near his breaking point. I fear the outcome for both will be disastrous.
