Galaxy Quest TV Series: Yes or No?

In 1999, science fiction and comedy collided. A film was made that felt like lightning had struck three times in the same spot. When you walk the line of sci-fi and funny you must be careful. When you mock one of the largest fan communities in history you have to be really ridiculously careful. Galaxy Quest toed the line and gave fans and critics everything they wanted.

Some films are so good that you don’t ever want them to be disturbed. It felt like a perfect moment in time when audiences could laugh with Tim Allen every time he removed his shirt and Sigourney Weaver could make light of her career. It poked good fun at Star Trek and the fans ate it up! Even cast members praised the film. It became a cult classic and one fans could watch over and over again. It had no sequel and should always remain that delicate moment in time where things clicked and everyone did everything right.

However, Hollywood is the place where some dreams go to die.

The Hollywood Reporter says a television series is in the works at Paramount Television. The film’s original writer, Robert Gordon, will write the show and the original director, Dean Parisot, will become executive producer. While that’s all well and good, this thing has a lot going against it. One of the best parts of the film was the cast. Tim Allen was riding high in the peak of his career. Sigourney Weaver is perfection. The rest of the core cast included Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell and together they made a great ensemble. It’s hard to imagine a reunion of that magnitude for the show.

Very little is known about the series. No plot has been revealed nor have any actors been rumored to be returning to their original roles.
