The time has come, yet again, for you to get your proper dose of excitement, adventure, and intrigue! People of the Net, without further delay, I present to you this week’s FRRRRRRRRRRIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY FICTIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

…Sam, play it.

*Cue music.*

Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, our Editor-in-Chief wishes to introduce this story personally. His opening remarks, while brief, are worth noting for the future. Ladies and gentlemen, the wonderful Dylan Alexander.

*Applause.*

Hello, everyone. I just finished editing “Across” by Brandon Scott. It is our only story tonight. It’s a good one, of course, but I wanted you to see something first. The following quote is the entirety of the email I received with Brandon’s story attached:

This might actually work for Star Trek. It’s spacey.

Though not super edited. Not at all. Sorry about that.

It’s entirely in dialogue. And I felt numb while writing it.
Enjoy, I guess.

Brandon is in Chicago as of the publication of this piece, with his family. They are saying goodbye to someone important. Whether you believe in Heaven or dirt or immortality, they were and always will be great. And so will this story.

Everyone, please take the time to read this beautiful piece entitled “Across” by Brandon Scott. CLICK HERE to read.

I didn’t mean to get all serious on you guys. I only meant to pay respect to someone my friend cares about.  Mr. Fictionmonger, I believe we can tune out at this point. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and goodnight. It’s been a good day. You will have a great day tomorrow.

I love you all. Live long and prosper.

*Applause.*

…tuning out.

Stories are important. Stories feed the mind and inspire the heart. They lift the spirit and challenge the imagination. They have the ability to predict what the future will be, and have the power to reveal the past in a light unseen before. Stories take people to worlds they thought never existed, worlds they thought couldn't exist. But they can, and they do. Stories make them a reality. Stories make them into truth. Don’t underestimate them (don’t tell me you haven’t before, we all have, even me). They are, collectively, the gateway to utopias, dystopias, kingdoms, planets and universes unlike anything on Earth—or, in some cases, all too much like Earth. Stories can wake people up from their brainwashed states and get them active in the world, doing things they wouldn't have had they not heard or read or seen them. Stories can save lives. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE STORIES, AND DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE YOUR ABILITY TO CREATE THEM.
