POKÉMON Detective Pikachu Trailer Review!

Will The First Live-Action Pokémon Movie Be As Awesome As This Trailer Looks?

I’m not a massive Pikachu fan or a massive Pokémon fan for that matter, but even I must acknowledge the sheer newness that is this trailer. The idea that a live-action Pokémon movie is going to come to American theaters, with Ryan Reynolds as the main voice actor, is so strange to me. And that the movie might be wonderful is even more surprising.

It looks good. The effects, the Pokémon designs, the setting is interesting.

And Ryan Reynolds has proven himself, to an insane degree, to be great at comedy timing and comedy lines. His dialogue seems solid if a little childish.

Ryan Reynolds And Pokémon Somehow Mix Well

But, even with those positive things, I’m still unsure. More trailer is needed. The plot itself—while likely obvious to people who’ve played the game—isn’t clear yet. Also, we never see Pikachu use any deductive skills. We just know he’s a detective because he says he is.

And, also, this is a nitpick, but he’s a Pikachu, and we never see him use any electricity. Perhaps it’s just time restraints for the trailer, but honestly, it’s bugging me.

I don’t know.

I can’t decide.

A Pokémon Movie On This Scale Better Be Good

Now, I’m almost certain the movie will be decent. A Pokémon buddy cop film sounds like a lot of fun even if it’s played utterly straight.

It’s just it also could be a masterpiece of a video game to live-action adaptation. A true champion, instead of the almost-version with Wreck-It Ralph.

If this movie gets the love it needs, and the care it deserves, it might finally set an industry standard regarding these adaptations that could lead to some truly amazing movies.

So, I’ll be keeping my feelers out as this progresses. Keep an eye out for the full review, later, here at Sci-Fi Bloggers.
