Blade Runner 2049: Script Secrecy & Teaser

No doubt one of the most anticipated movies for sci-fi fans this year is Blade Runner 2049. Arrival, and recently confirmed Dune reboot, director Denis Villeneuve is at the helm and the word on the street is he will do the franchise justice, adding yet another brilliant plume to his already overflowing cap.

Not much is yet known about the setting for the Blade Runner sequel. In fact, secrecy and security during the production was said to be so tight that the actors weren’t even allowed to take their scripts home during shooting.

According to Newsweek, Walking Dead star Lennie James, who is also in the film, said the following:

…”you had to sign them out, and they’d give you your sides with your words for that day, and then you had to sign them back in. And they wouldn’t let you get in your car to go home until you’d given your sides back.”

“It was frantic. When I finished on the gig, I thought I’d sit down with the script and take it all in. No. Nine hours after wrap that script vanished from my iPad.”

The Blade Runner 2049 website has a simple and very brief synopsis with little substance:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Um, okay, there’s a big secret, and? It is early yet, however. The film doesn’t come out until October. So, since we’re not likely to get more news any time soon, here’s the latest trailer to keep you occupied.

Now for those of you unfamiliar with and/or not fully caught up with Blade Runner – you call yourself a sci-fi fan? <joke> <not a joke>

But seriously, you really need to get caught up with this since Blade Runner is widely regarded as one of the best science fiction films of all time. That and 2049 is the sequel. It’s true sci-fi, meaning it’s cerebral in many respects, so you won’t appreciate it as much and will likely be lost if you’re not up to speed.
