Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff is Back On

It’s spinoff city up in here. Well, technically.

Back in April it was widely reported that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be receiving the spinoff treatment but details were very minimal and the project was squashed not long after. However, have hope! There are new whisperings to be excited about.

Variety recently reported that ABC was in the late stages of ordering a pilot for a series based around fan favorites Bobbi Morse, played by Adrianne Palicki, and Lance Hunter, played by Nick Blood. The series will be entitled Marvel’s Most Wanted and S.H.I.E.L.D. producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski will be co-showrunners.

It’s likely that the original project was let go in its early stages due to the faltering status of the show. Though its first season attracted more viewers originally, it left a lot of room for improvement. Critics called the first few episodes “rocky,” but the show seemed to find its way in later episodes and solidified a second season in May 2014. The second season, which premiered on September 23, 2014, ran for a full 22 episodes. Viewership was way down from the astonishing 12 million who turned in for the series premiere, but the audience numbers remained consistent throughout. The second season currently holds a 94% Fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and was picked up for a third season this past Spring. It is scheduled to premiere on September 29th.

Most Wanted will focus on Morse, better known as Mockingbird, and Hunter’s storylines. Currently, no plot details are known and there is no premiere date.

You can also remember that this isn’t the only secretive show Marvel is working on since American Crime creator John Ridley is also cooking up something top secret for the network. “The only thing I can say about it is that I’m really in love with that project. I continue to give Marvel and ABC credit because within their system they’re still trying to bring in other voices.” Ridley stated in an interview with the A.V. Club, “I’m in the development stage where I get down on my knees and pray that it goes forward.”
