Stargate Universe Review

Stargate Universe Review.

Stargate Universe cast: Robert Carlyle, Brian J. Smith, Justin Louis, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith.

Air date: October 2, 2009

Premise:
Stargate Universe is a television show that is part of a 10 year old franchise where there is a crew on a space ship and while they do have a purpose, it is unclear what that purpose is until the 2009 season.  Their ship, the ‘ninth Chevron” ultimately takes a team led by Dr. David Rush and Colonel Everet Young to an Ancient (race) ship called the “Destiny”.  They are trapped and locked in on a previously programmed mission which will take them to new universes and many encounters with alien races.

What’s  Good:
Stargate Universe is more of a mix between a science fiction show and a daytime soap opera.  It does have its funny moments and the characters interact quite well with each other.  Eli (character) is the one saving grace that Stargate Universe has.  He brings life to a show that has none.

The Not So Good:
First of all, do we really need another show about space ships and being lost in space?  There are so many out there as it is and this is by far not the best one.  If you want good quality aliens with a space and or time theme, there are quite a few better shows out there with more quality effects and story lines.  Even their chevrons needed work.  The new characters are quite generic as well.

Overall:
This show is kind of a modern day Battlestar Galactica from the story line to direction and effects.  If a space oriented show is what you are looking for, then you should try the older version: Stargate Atlantis.  It was much more interesting with more colorful characters and a better story line.  Stargate Universe is the show to watch when you want something to fall asleep to and possibly will induce nightmares.
