With reboots of classic franchises popping up often, would it surprise you to know that a few sequels are coming down the pipeline?
Probably not, but it might surprise you to learn just what movies are getting upcoming sequels. Things you might never have expected to get revitalized will arrive within a year or two.
So, here, in no real order, are five sequels coming out soon.
We know little about this movie, but, after all this time, that we are getting a new one is exciting, but also kind of worrying. The sequels to The Matrix were not great films, and it’s been so long that the energy might not be there anymore. However, John Wick has shown that Keanu is still an amazing action star, and Lana Wachowski has proven her skills quite a few times. I’m hopeful for this one—though I am not expecting a masterpiece.
Friendly reminder this is still a movie coming out, and the early trailers look amazing. The cast seems great, the tone seems strong, and I love the world of Ghostbusters despite it being very confusing if you think about the lore too hard.
Somehow, even after Crystal Skull, this is still happening. Feel free to look deeper for yourself, but this movie is, yes, still starring Harrison Ford, and yes, Stephen Spielberg is involved, though not the director. I’d love to know if and what the tagline will be, and what insane magical item they might try to shove into this franchise next. Mark my words, they will reference the silliness of the fridge scene. There’s no way they won’t try to cash in on that.
Did you forget this almost entirely self-contained and now over 10-year-old film is supposed to be part of a planned massive franchise? Because I did. The technical wizardry of the first movie is still rather impressive, and the planet of Pandora is visually salivating, but this had better be worth the wait. I mean, regardless, it will make so much money, but that’s neither here nor there.
Uh, yeah, really. The new movie is called We Can Be Heroes and will be released on Netflix. It’s about an absurd number of superhero children. I don’t know what all these years will do for the wonky CGI that made Spy Kids how it is, but I kind of need to see this movie now. It’s either going to be terrible, or wonderful—or maybe even both.

Were you surprised by these new movies? Are you excited to see them? They will all certainly be interesting. I just hope we get more Jurassic Worlds than Independence Day: Resurgences.
