5 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Worlds I Wouldn’t Mind Living In

We’ve seen over hundreds of fantastical worlds that make us wish we could leap through the television screen in front of us and leave the current world we live in behind. For better or worse, its always fun to lean back and imagine an entirely different life in worlds that we can only appreciate within the boundaries of our minds. The following are some surreal worlds that I personally wouldn’t mind being apart of.

The Shire from The Lord of the Rings trilogy

A shot at being a Hobbit? I’ll take it. Every moment when I sit to think about The Shire, all that comes to mind are celebrations, fresh produce, peacefulness, greenery and a whole lot of ale; all this set against the background of the soundtrack that plays when Gandalf paid a visit. So I’ll be about three feet tall (maybe even four!) and have hairy feet, but seeing the world from a smaller perspective away from the greater evil of the world will be just what I need to live my life to the fullest. Join me and we’ll smoke our pipes together.

Pandora from Avatar

So I’m a sucker for nature, greens, and now glow in the dark environments. Avatar blew us away with its CGI, and I sure wouldn’t mind living in such a world surrounded by Mother Nature. From training to be a tough warrior to riding my very own Ikran, I’m sure I will be able to live comfortably without technology.

The Grid from TRON : Legacy

So here’s a sharp shift from nature to the minimalistic world of The Grid. User or not, I wouldn’t mind riding the Light Cycle through the streets even if it means that I’m running from the guards or competing with others to prove myself. There may be tight security and the possible outbreak of war under Clu’s reign, but what’s life without a few challenges to stir things up a little?

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter series

Hogwarts isn’t really a “world” per say but I decided to keep it as it is instead of labeling my title as the “Harry Potter World.” Magic spells, chocolate frogs, Quidditch and a pet owl? I wish I could be a wizard and go shopping in Diagon Alley anytime I desired. Nothing portrays the exciting possibilities of the magical world as colorful as J.K. Rowling, who opened a door of endless opportunities in the first installment. Attending Hogwarts for seven years to master your spells, eat delicious conjured food and basically do whatever you want seems like an offer that is too good to pass up.

Soul Society from Bleach

As one of my favorite anime series, I’ll take a little bias approach here so bare with me. Bleach fans, you know what I’m getting at. Soul Society may at first glimpse seem like a plain and mundane world inhabited by Death Gods who are just busy carrying out their designated duties, yet there is so much more to do than what meets the eye. Besides special shops for eating and drinking, the idea of being a powerful Death God is very attractive (at least at the vice-captain or captain level). You would be wielding your own unique Zanpakut?  (the primary katana-like weapon), protecting humans from Hollows, and even learning to master your ultimate technique known as the Bankai, one of the most exciting aspects throughout the anime. On a less serious note, you could just simply be getting together with friends, reading the daily newspaper, or relaxing in your barracks. Aging also seems to be of little concern in this world where each Death God do not seem to have an exact lifespan, yet they are not immortal. It would certainly be quite rewarding to enjoy life a little longer while carrying out your specific duties and individual battles depending on the squad you’re assigned to.

A wise saying once claimed that fiction reveals truths that reality obscures. I will continuing dreaming, and hope you will too.

A constant tumblr junkie ever since I created an account a couple of weeks ago. I'm an avid movie-goer, read a variety of books when I have the time and watch a range of television programs. Being the child of a father who owns more than 900 star wars/star trek and other sci-fi novels combined, as well as growing up alongside a brother who taught me to play video games since i was 8, its definitely hard NOT to love these genres.
