Unchained Memory is a Trippy Romantic Ride
When I’m contacted about doing a book review, I get excited, because the books aren’t typically out yet and most of the time they’re not something I would look to purchase. That’s all right with me. I’ll branch out of my usual habits and dive into something new for the sake of our readers, but I have to say that this read threw me for a loop.
You see, Unchained Memory is a love story. I’m by no means against some good romance, but it doesn’t strike me as interesting content right off the bat. However, the novel by Donna S. Frelick promised me a science fiction twist. Hm, are they lovers crossing paths in different times? I’ve seen it. Is someone a vampire?! I’m so done with it. But Donna’s story is one no one could expect and it goes places you have never seen.
The book is a story about Asia Burette. One night, when Asia is driving home, she loses time. She doesn’t pass out, there’s no accident, but she wakes up three hours later with no explanation of what happened in this time. Soon afterward, Asia finds out that her home was the victim of a terrifying electricity fire and her three children, as well as their babysitter, have been engulfed in flames. After trying to deal with the trauma of her situation, she is recommended to Dr. Ethan Roberts, a psychiatrist who specializes in patients with lapses of memory. Oh yeah, and he’s a fox. Their chemistry is quickly undeniable and in the struggle to keep their relationship professional the two discover unearthly secrets about Asia’s past.
There are moments when you are surprised by what you are reading and sometimes its unbelievable, but Frelick paints a picture of two tortured souls who must come together under the strangest circumstances to become free of their demons. There are so many questions left to the reader. Is Asia crazy? Is any of this real? Audiences are taken on a wild journey of science fiction wonderment and swept up in the strong grip of romance. I don’t want to reveal too much, because if the combination of engrossing romance and action-packed science fiction intrigues you then you must check out this book, which will be released on February 24th.
