TRAILER TALK: Rooster Teeth’s “Lazer Team”
After years of waiting, fans finally get to see Rooster Teeth’s first live-action film come to life. An official trailer launched on RT’s YouTube on March 16th, and you can check it out right here:
It’s a concept used before in films like The Watch or Mystery Men, but it still manages to offer an intriguing story and laughs throughout. Four guys manage to come across a suit of incredible power that was originally meant for the Champion of the Earth, a single man trained to the fullest extent to obliterate an evil race of aliens, and now they’ve got to step up and save the entire human race. The movie features RT’s own Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones and actor Colton Dunn as the titular Lazer Team and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Alan Ritchson as the intended Champion of the Earth.
After deciding to go with a crowdfunding campaign, the film found huge success over on IndieGoGo. The page met its initial goal of $650,000 in about ten hours. When funding wrapped up the campaign boasted a value raised of over $2.4 million, and 37,493 backers, thus making it the most successful film campaign in the history of IndieGoGo. The film will be distributed by Fullscreen Films and is hoping for a theatrical release.
Overall thoughts on the trailer: Yes. It looks great, campy and fun. It’s not going to be the greatest science fiction comedy of our time, but I’m going to bring my friends and it’s likely that we’re going to have a good time. The story is intriguing and we didn’t see the aliens, which I love! That leaves a lot to look forward to and hopefully my mind will be blown.
