The Best Memorable Game Characters

In this short and sweet top 5 list, I’ll explore some of the most memorable faces in Sci-Fi gaming, so enjoy. That’s not an order, (though unlikely) you of course have the right not to enjoy something. Anyway, enough dilly dallying!

5. Killzone – Helghast Soldier.

It’s difficult not to remember a face that looks like Darth Vader, which if you look on the covers of any games or even search around on the internet, is who it looks like. The Helghast Soldier is literally looking into your soul (below). How can it not live long in the memory? It hits home immediately, the sort of elements you can expect from the game. Already a lot of information can be relayed just by looking at the image below, which in itself is very good in it’s design and story. Be warned if you look into the eyes for more than 5 minutes, there’s no guarantee we can save you!

4. Spec Ops, The Line – Colonel John Konrad.

This list is about memorable faces in Sci-Fi gaming, does it count then, when the main character, in this little gem, doesn’t have much of a face to go by? Due to the Colonel’s prolonged exposure to a lot of firefights and explosions, making his face more and more worn looking, which in turn leaves an imprint in our memory also. The most recent out of the 5 being released in 2012, the reception and popularity rocketed almost as soon as it was released, one that I’m sure will live long in the memory. Some fantastic playability features involved, graphics and story, what more could you ask for?

3. Deus Ex – Anti Terrorist Coalition agent, JC Denton.

Though only having foolishly played “Human Revolution” it is clear to see that the first, which was released in around 2000 on the PC platform, then PS2 later, became one of  the most popular and well received Sci-Fi games of all time. JC Denton’s fight for justice, eradicating corrupt syndicates, along with his slick/augmented persona and general skills in shooting and stealth, is what’s so memorable. If you want the best and can stomach old style graphics then try the PS2 or PC version, of the first Deus Ex.

2. Metal Gear Solid – Solid Snake.

When it was first announced to the public, a question whether the lead character was in fact, a reptile played on some peoples minds. But with 3 games already out it is clear to see that MGS leads name is code and in fact is a human. An incredible tour de force, in most aspects of the franchise. Including one of games most beloved characters, Solid Snake, with his iconic bandanna and quick witted humor, despite the scenarios he finds himself. Cannot recommend enough!

1. Mass Effect – Commander Shepard.

Well not much to say other than it’s continuous popularity, is entirely justified, not only the more recent 3rd in the trilogy but all the games, are played on. In a list of some of the most memorable faces, this is the only one, where it’s actually up to you, how the resulting features of the Commanders face looks like, if you go the evil or good way. Just Play it and you’ll see, this time, this one is an order! ;  )
